John Lazzaros Sfront is a command-line SAOL-to-C compiler that has been under construction for quite some time now. It runs on Windows, Macintosh and UNIX-machines and converts your SAOL-code into audio-files, or (more interesting) send the audio directly to your soundcard.
Running in realtime under Linux, Sfront has one of the best performances in dsp/synthesis-software with latency around 2 milliseconds. This offers amazing possibility for using Sfront in live-performances, with realtime audio fed into it. (Unfortunately for Windows, the realtime possibilities aren't very well developed yet.)
Lazzaro, together with John Wawrzynek, has a very handy homepage with Tutorial Introductions into SAOL and Sfront, some examples and the MPEG4-SA Book, in which the whole SA-language is explained. A must-see...
